Types Of Pipe Testing Machines
There are different types of pipe testing machines and all of them vary in terms of engineering design, features, applications and pricing. Each of them also differ in the type of testing method. In this article we will focus on pipe testing and discuss in detail about its various types and their applications.
STANDards. STANDards testing machine consists of a steel frame and a high-pressure hydraulic power unit. The steel frame is typically containing two extra rigid columns and also carrying chassis with flexible strut linking system. The stroke of the high-pressure hydraulic actuator is 600 mm. Load cell used for precise overload and sealed loop control is also available.
Hydrostatic pipe testing machines use a hydrometer (high-pressure water jetting probe) at the end of each column. The hydrometer probe can measure the pipe area. The hydrostatic testing is done after fitting the pipe on the center tap or the outboard fitting. The hydrostatic pipe T-test is also used to evaluate the performance of the pipe joints. The main advantage of using hydrostatic pipe testing machines is their capability to handle large diameter pipes and also to resist dynamic forces such as tensile loads.
Drag Pipe Inspection. Drag Pipe inspection is similar to hydrostatic pipe inspection but with low water pressure. During this inspection the inspector checks the inside of the pipe for blockages, crack, and root intrusion. The main advantage of using this type of inspection is the reduced time and high accuracy performance. The other main advantages of using drag pipe machines are the ability to read the flow rate and the high accuracy performance.
Hydraulic Pump Testing. This type of testing is ideal for checking and evaluating the pumping capacity of any pipe including the one end of natural gas and oil pipelines. The purpose of using this machine is to determine the amount of hydraulic pressure and the flow rate of any pipe. In some types of high pressure pipelines, the hydraulic piston may be operated manually.
Concrete Pipe Testing. A concrete pipe tester is an electronic device that measures the concrete pipe stresses and strain levels. The stresses and strains are measured based on the tensile strengths and bending moments. It measures both bending moments and tensile strengths at both ends of the bends. There are several advantages of using this type of testing machine, the most important one being the efficiency of running the test without interruptions due to environmental conditions.
